Why so many churches are closing?
Dear Editor,
When I was growing up in the Episcopal Church, Bishop Emrich visited every parish once a year and he had the whole state to cover. Now we have a Bishop that comes to visit only every three years and he has a lot smaller area.
Every time that I pick up The Record, another parish has closed and the leadership is planning to spend over a million dollars to move their offices from Detroit to Plymouth.
Why not spend our money to find out why so many of our churches are closing? Other religions have a growing membership while the Episcopalian membership is decreasing.
Times in Michigan are tough now and money is very tight. Instead of spending money on a new building why not use one of the many churches that are vacant for their offices?
It is time for the Bishop and our leadership to start leading.
Sincerely,
Mary Jean Dionne
